If you ever needed proof that money can’t buy class… This summer, the supposed ‘pound for pound’ boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. did all sorts of shucking and jiving to avoid meeting Manny Pacquaio in the ring, and said jack shit about it the entire time. Then, after Manny got frustrated and found himself another opponent, Floyd suddenly found his voice. And it’s a pretty ugly voice. In a noxious rant sent out via his Ustream feed, Floyd called Manny a ‘faggot’ and made derogatory comments about Filipinos eating dogs and cats. Roethlisberger back sooner than expected

You have to admit, for the seriousness of what Roethlisberger allegedly did to a young and probably very hot and very flirty young girl, maybe he’s getting off a little easier than many Moms would like. But then again, he wasn’t actually charged with a crime, I guess with rape charges it’s a buy one get off scott free type deal. And I can’t help but ask the question, if this was another athlete, as in say, a Michael Vick type athlete, why do I feel like there’s no way in hell the league is shortening a suspension for a second consecutive rape charge?

But with the NFL easing up on Big Ben’s suspension, just how much does this change the outlook for the Steelers? NFL experts often say a team grows through-out four game increments, Ben now expected to be back in the lineup sooner than previously expected the Steelers turns some heads? Props? Read more.

Right now the biggest story at the US Open isn’t about umpires being chastised and publicly humiliated, it isn’t about how players nearly died in the heat, and sadly it’s not about the high pitch shrills from a tall blonde Russian, it’s about John Isner and his amazing run. Of course it helps that Isner is American, but his story is compelling nonetheless. The US Open is the first bout of competitive play since Isner returned from his ankle injury, and yet he’s looked anything but rusty. It looks like Isner is really trying to make a name for himself in the tennis world, and not one from an abomination of tennis where a match can take days to win. Nope, the lanky American isn’t wasting anytime, he’s winning matches, and the New York crowd, albeit, he did steal the hype and fire from a teenager and a fellow countrymen to do it. Perhaps the length of the NFL preseason should be cut in half, as per the wishes of those revenue-crazed owners (and those sportsbooks likely wouldn’t object, neither). As it stands, preseason ‘football’ often resembles (at best) a public scrimmage, or (at worst) a bunch of Pop Warner kids divided up into teams only moments before kickoff, with an equivalent lack of cohesiveness, coordination and (at times) common sense. NFL teams making bogus trades to avoid paying into rookie pool?

The NFL Players Association is said to be taking a closer look at trades made between four teams — Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals — over concerns that the moves are thinly-disguised ways of avoiding having to pay money into a rookie player pool. Under collective bargaining rules, if a drafted rookie is cut by the team that drafted him, that team is required to pay 85 per cent of that player’s salary into a rookie pool. The suspicion is that teams are swapping draftees they plan on cutting, letting their new teams be the one to drop the axe and thereby each team would save a measly couple hundred grand, which could then be spent on ivory backscratchers and such for their owners.
